When the Lord Jesus Christ ascended (= Resurrected, Glorified), He did not move away from us, but became even closer to us than He was before the Cross-Resurrection-Ascension-Pentecost! And it is very important to understand: people (including the apostles) believed in Jesus Christ (as Lord, the Son of God) only after the Cross-Resurrection-Pentecost! The Lord is known only by the Holy Spirit! The apostles believed in Jesus (orthodoxly, truly, not nationally-politically) as Christ and Lord (= God, the ontological Son of God) only after the Cross-Resurrection (= Pentecost-Ascension-Glorification), when they accepted the Holy Spirit by faith, and in the Holy Spirit recognized the Lord Jesus Christ.
Some say, justifying their laziness, unbelief: “Oh, if I were there when the Lord walked the earth, performed miracles, preached, it would have been easier to believe in Him, to become a disciple of Christ; if I were there at that time in Palestine, I would ask the Lord to heal me or my relatives, close ones…”. Why do you need Palestine, Jerusalem, Galilee, why do you long for the past, for the time of the Lord’s life before the Resurrection?! You are now in much better conditions (“it is better for you that I go, and come to you in the Holy Spirit”—see John 16:7) than those crowds, thousands of people who followed Jesus Christ, seeking bread and spectacles (and of course healing, because the sickly are not interested in bread and spectacles, they first need healing, and then bread and spectacle: ten were cleansed-healed, but only one returned to God to give thanks—see Luke 17:17-18). But then, as now, Christ is known by faith, and only believers have access to Christ! Therefore, we are all in the same conditions! The Lord is with us (not only in Palestine, Jerusalem, Galilee, or in some “holy” places… but already humanity, resurrected, deified is everywhere and fills everything, and is with everyone and cares for everyone (“stands and knocks at the heart of (the pagan)” of everyone))!
The Lord came to earth (became incarnate) to unite with us, deify us, and be with us in unity forever! Therefore, everything described in the Gospel icons from the Incarnation to Pentecost is all God’s movement towards us, up to the doors of our hearts (the further movement of God (into our hearts, into the core of each person) already depends on each of us). Living in the flesh (before the Cross-Pentecost-Resurrection), the Lord Jesus was close to people (but limited in space-time), but blessed them from outside (“for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified”). But after the Ascension-Pentecost-Cross, He became as close as possible to each person (not as it was 2000 years ago, only for the inhabitants of Judea and its surroundings, but for everyone: in all forms of existence). Since then, perichoresis, mutual penetration of God into a person and a person into God in Jesus Christ has been possible.
But the Jews (who are still waiting for something: “Christians,” “Orthodox”), who do not know the Scriptures or the Power of God, claim that the Scriptures (in the Icon) say that the Lord departed from the disciples, ascended to Heaven, and will come again to judge the living and the dead on the last day, etc… Let’s depict this situation with a parable. A guest came to the yard (and people communicated with Him from the house through the window—33 years), and then left the yard (became invisible to carnal eyes), to enter the house—simply the entrance door from the other side of the house (into the heart-person),—therefore, He could no longer be seen through the window (carnal perceptions). Therefore, the Jews (who live according to the flesh and for the flesh) conclude that He left (since He became invisible to carnal eyes (perceptions)). The Lord is already at the entrance door, standing and knocking, while the Jews are looking for Him in the yard, at the gate, or somewhere far on the horizon!?
The Lord did not leave us but completed the coming—entered (already into believing hearts) into Heaven (and Heaven is in the heart-person…) and stands at the hearts of unbelievers (pagans: “Christians,” “Orthodox”…), ready to enter and fill them with the fullness of the Bliss of the Life of the Holy Trinity (see Rev. 3:20)! So, the so-called departure (“I go away from you”) means: I go as (an external) individual to come in the Holy Spirit and become everything in everyone! I go = go externally to enter your internal, to enter your hearts, to become one with you in the Holy Spirit! The Lord became invisible to carnal eyes (as a limited individual), ascended from people’s eyes, to enter their hearts by faith, to become one with them—where there is no distance. Everything we see with carnal eyes (perceptions), we see outside ourselves—it is objective. But the Lord Jesus Christ is not an object, but a Subject, a Person-Individual, who is known only in direct communication-union, in perichoresis-mutual penetration (which became possible in the Holy Spirit only after Pentecost-Cross-Resurrection), in the same way of existence (Humble Love). After the Resurrection, Jesus Christ is no longer known as an individual (see, for example, Luke 24:15-16, 35; John 20:14-15; 21:4, 12-14), but only (as the Lord, as a Person-Individual of the Holy Trinity, as God-Man-Lord) by faith in the Holy Spirit, in the Sacrament (Body, Hypostatic, Eucharistic whole giving oneself, entrusting oneself to Jesus Christ and wholly accepting Him) of communication-communion!
