(II) 9.Rite of the Liturgy of Basil the Great:

Deliver, O Lord, this city (or this monastery), and every city and country from famine, plague, earthquake, flood, fire, sword, invasion by enemies, and civil war.

After the prayer, the presbyter pronounces: Above all, remember, Lord, His Holiness (name) Patriarch of Kiev and All Russia-Ukraine, and our Most Blessed Archbishop (name of the ruling bishop), and grant them for Your holy churches in peace, safety, honor, health, and length of days, rightly teaching the word of Your truth.

Faithful: And all mankind.

Presbyter: Remember, Lord, all the Orthodox bishops who rightly teach the word of Your truth.

Remember, Lord, because of Your great mercies also my unworthiness; forgive me every transgression both voluntary and involuntary and do not withhold the grace of Your Holy Spirit from these gifts presented here.

Remember, Lord, the priesthood, the diaconate in Christ, and every order of the clergy, and do not confound any of us who stand about Your holy altar. Look upon us in Your kindness, Lord, manifest Yourself to us in Your rich compassion. Grant us seasonable weather and fruitful seasons, send gentle showers upon the earth so that it may bear fruit, bless the crown of the year with Your goodness. Prevent schisms among the churches, pacify the ragings of the pagans, quickly destroy the uprisings of heresies by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Receive us all into Your kingdom, showing us to be sons of light and sons of the day. Grant us Your peace and Your love, O Lord our God, for You have given all things to us.

(Here the presbyter (or deacon) commemorates the living,— see note 15 for details on commemorations. Then he pronounces)

Presbyter: And grant that with one mouth and one heart we may praise and glorify Your most honorable and majestic name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and always, and unto the ages of ages.

Faithful: Amen.

Presbyter turns to the assembly of the faithful and, blessing, pronounces:

May the mercies of our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ be with all of you.

Faithful: And with your spirit.

Presbyter: ‘Having remembered all the saints…’; after the litany the presbyter prays:

Our God, the God of salvation, teach us to thank You worthily for the benefits which You have performed and still perform for us. You, our God, having accepted these gifts, cleanse us from every defilement of flesh and spirit, and teach us to perfect sanctity in fear of You, that receiving a portion of Your holy things with a pure conscience we may be united with the holy Body and Blood of Your Christ. Having received them worthily, may we have Christ dwelling in our hearts, and may we become the temple of Your Holy Spirit. Yes, our God, let none of us be guilty of these, Your awesome and heavenly Mysteries, nor be infirm in soul and body by partaking of them unworthily; but enable us, even to our last breath, to receive a portion of Your holy things worthily, as provision for eternal life and for a favorable answer at the dread judgment seat of Your Christ. That we, together with all the saints who throughout the ages have been pleasing to You, may become partakers of Your eternal good things, which You have prepared for those who love You, Lord.

With raised hands, the presbyter pronounces:

And grant us, Master, with boldness and without condemnation, to dare call You, the heavenly God, Father, and to say:

Faithful: ‘Our Father…’, presbyter: ‘For Yours is the Kingdom…’, faithful: ‘Amen’.

Presbyter, turning and blessing the people: Peace be to all. Faithful: And to your spirit.

Presbyter: Let us bow our heads to the Lord. Faithful: To You, O Lord.

Presbyter prays: Master, Lord, Father of mercies and God of all consolation! Before You we have bowed our heads; bless us, sanctify us, preserve us, make us firm, fortify us, turn away from us every evil work, connect us to every good work, and make us worthy to partake of these Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries without condemnation for the remission of our sins and for the communion of the Holy Spirit. By the grace, compassion, and love toward mankind of Your Only-Begotten Son with whom You are blessed, together with Your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and always, and unto the ages of ages.

Faithful: Amen.

Presbyter prays: Look upon us, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, from Your holy dwelling place and from the throne of glory of Your kingdom; come to sanctify us, You who sit on high with the Father and are here invisibly present with us; and deem to give by Your mighty hand Your immaculate Body and precious Blood to us, and through us to all the people.

Let us be attentive.”

“Presbyter, lifting the Holy Bread, proclaims: The Holy things for the holy.

Faithful: One is Holy, One is Lord, Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

And the faithful sing the communion hymn (koinonikon) of the day or saint.

Presbyter, attentively and devoutly breaking the Holy Bread into four parts, says:

The Lamb of God is broken and distributed, broken yet not divided, ever eaten yet never consumed, sanctifying those who partake.
